Your Mexico Jorney of Baja California begins by meeting at 11:00 in the morning at the San Diego Antrak station or airport. Depart on Mexican charter coach for border crossing at Tijuana your will stop for a get acquainted luncheon at La Fonda Restaurant, one of the most beautiful places along this coast. Then it's off to Ensenada, where the remainder of the day and evening are free to explore the lively streets and shops of this port city. This morning you will leave Ensenada and pass trough Santo Tomas, the location of one of Baja's northern-most missions, now just adobe walls and grapevines. You will stop for lunch at San Quintin and will enjoy the opportunity to stretch your legs on the fine sand-dollar laden beach. Beyond the old mission village of El Rosario, the desert changes dramatically to "Typical Baja". Here is the first appearance of the cirio tree, found nowhere else in the world, with cactus forests on all directions. Overnight accommodations tonight are at the LA PINTA CATAVIÑA, located in the midst of this rock garden setting. After breakfast, you will start fairly for our journey to San Ignacio. Crossing plateaus and climbing mountains, the road eventually winds back to the coast near the town of Guerero Negro. This is a good chance to sample some of Baja's local seafood while you stop for lunch. Afterwards, you cross the barren and formidable Vizcaino desert, suddenly dropping into a lush oasis-like valley, which is the site of San Ignacio, the location of one of the best-preserved of the Baja missions, LA PINTA SAN IGNACIO is your host tonight. This morning you will cross a range of volcanoes called the Three Virgins, before descending to our first glimpse of the fabled Sea of Cortez, soon arriving at the cooper mining town of Santa Rosalía. Here is the excellent bakery begun originally by the French and still in operation, also the iron church; witch was designed by Albert Eiffel (who built the Eiffel Tower). You will se another oasis-town, Mulege, site of another well preserved Jesuit mission. Late afternoon will find you arriving in Loreto, staying at the resort complex, STOUFFER PRESIDENTE. This morning you pass the magnificent mountain range, the Sierra de La Garganta, and then cross the desert virtually enchanting until you climb a slight rise and can see the beautiful sweeping view of La Paz Bay, rimmed by the city itself. La Paz is an International resort of 300,000 population, and still supports a healthy fishing industry. Your overnight accommodations are at the centrally located HOTEL LOS ARCOS. Around noon you will leave for the scenic drive to Baja's south cape, where you will cross the Tropico of Cancer. You will be staying here for the next two nights, So unpack and unwind the beautiful weather and environs of Baja cape region. Hotel accommodations are at the STOUFFER PRESIDENTE, HACIENDA, OR FINISTERRA. This morning take a glass-bottom boat ride out to the famous Land's End arch at the very tip of the Baja Peninsula. You will be back at the dock before lunch, and the rest of the day is reserved at your leisure. This evening you have a farewell margarita party and dinner. Today is yours to relax before your transfer to the airport in time for your continuing flight. Hasta luego, y buen viaje!!!!!! OPTIONAL "WHALE WATCHING" This morning, travel to Magdalena Bay for your fantastic whale watching adventure! Upon arrival at the bay, you will board an open 22" panga (skiff) and off to search for gray whales. Around mid-way you will return to the beach for lunch, and continue on to La Paz.
