Locally Hosted DAY 1 OAXACA Arrive Oaxaca and transfer to our down town hotel Mision de los Angeles or Suites del Centro Hotel. Welcome dinner.
DAY 2 MONTE ALBAN Today we will visit Monte Alban, one of the most important archaeological sites in Meso America. Walk or climb the pyramids only if the group want to. During the afternoon visit the village of Atzompa known for its ceramic and green glazed pottery.
DAY 3 FRIDAY MARKETS Mooning tour of the village of San Bartolo Coyotepec, home of the famous Oaxaca black pottery, see the pottery makers at work in their small home shops. Than continue on to see the native Indian markets of Santo Tomas Jalietza and Ocotlan. During the afternoon we will do a walking tour of down town Oaxaca, visiting the zocalo with its lovely bandstand, huge shade trees and benches and sidewalk cages The Cathedral started in 1544 and completed 200 years latter. The church and Monastery of Santo Domingo and the Regional Museum that houses the spectacular collection of Mixtec art and Jewelry found at Monte Alban. Dinner will be at Casa de la Cantera with the performance of the famous local Gelaguetza dance.
DAY 4 MITLA On our way to the archaeological site of Mitla we will stop and see "El Tule", a cypress tree with a 162 feet girth and over 2000 years old. The tour of Mitla will be some walking while our guide will explain the archaeological site. Afternoon is optional walk to see the downtown Indian market. The Indian markets in Oaxaca are the most colorful and vibrant in Mexico, they are still in the pre-Columbian tradition.
DAY 5 HOME Transfer to the airport for the return flight home, or to continue with an extension to the nearby and the newest of Mexico's beach resort "Huatulco" for a couple of nights.
