Founded in 1564 by Spanish conqueror Don Francisco de Ibarra, the colonial village of El Fuerte is a popular departure for Cooper Canyon rail tours.
The hotel has 54 rooms with three styles. One style is the old high ceilings with 240 Amapa wood beams and two story balconies which are the original bedrooms of the mansion.
